Most land-based and physical casinos around the world tend to offer Texas Hold’em as the main kind of poker available for players to enjoy. Texas Hold’em is by far the most popular card game in the world, even more so than blackjack, and it’s the variant of poker that most players are familiar with. The rules are easy to learn, the game play is endlessly exciting, and there are rich rewards for the players that introduce different strategies into their game.
Texas Hold’em, however, isn’t the only kind of poker available to enjoy. There are, in fact, more than a dozen poker variants, and each one brings something new to the table, while maintaining much of the base game play that millions of people have come to love about the game.
Omaha Hold’em
Not too far behind Texas Hold’em is Omaha Hold’em, which is sometimes just known as Omaha. There are plenty of similarities between Omaha and Texas Hold’em, such as there being four betting rounds as well as five community cards. The difference here, however, is that the community cards are face up from the start of each round, and instead of receiving two pocket cards, players are given four. There are even variants of Omaha itself, such as Omaha Hi/Lo that can also provide a lot of fun.
Chinese Poker
Chinese Poker is another type of poker that brings in unique rules, and while this variant might not be for everyone, it’s still worth giving a try. In Chinese Poker, each player receives 13 cards, and the player will need to split their cards into two separate hands. The hands have their own names, and during the game players will need to announce whether they are going to play a hand.
Pineapple Poker
Another popular variant to check out is Pineapple Poker. While playing this, a player will be given three cards, and they will have to check them out before deciding on one card to discard. The betting rounds will then begin, and the rules are exactly the same as Texas Hold’em. There are even more variants of Pineapple Poker, such as Crazy Pineapple or Lazy Pineapple, each one offering something different.
5 Card Draw
For a simpler version of poker, it might be worth checking out 5-Card Draw. The dealer will give out 5 cards to begin with, and every player is given the chance to trade up their three cards if they want. Whichever play has the best five-card hand by the end wins the round. Video poker games that are available at sites like Big Dollar casino are based on this premise too, so they’re a great learning curve.
7 Card Stud
There is also 7-Card Stud poker and has similar rules and game play to 5-card, except that players receive 7 cards instead of 5 at the start of the game. Three of the cards are put face down, while the others are left face up, and players need to try and make the highest value they can with their cards. There are many other variants of poker, such as Draw, Razz, Stud, and others, and each one offers something new and exciting to give a try.
